You risk damage to your unit by leaving windows and patio doors open, even for a short time, when the temperature is below 0°C. Letting cold air flow into your unit, even through a small crack, will cause the water running through the pipes to freeze and expand, bursting the pipe and flooding the area.
In the event of a burst pipe and flood, residents are responsible for all damages and repairs to their unit as well as any other units that may also have sustained damage.
Every year there is at least one instance of a flood due to burst pipes, and occupants often pay thousands of dollars to fix their mistake. Don't let this happen to you!
